This week's version features a solid color bodice with a print for the skirt. The tulip-print fabric is from Amy Sedaris' fabric line "I Like You." Isn't it amazing how just a few details can completely change the look of a pattern?
Do you see what's pinned to my breast? A tulip brooch!! I found this vintage gem on Etsy. Nothing like a good matching novelty brooch to make an outfit.

I didn't do any pattern alterations, so you're looking at the same dress sans the bow. That means this version also has pockets, which are always fun, and I did a lapped zipper like I mentioned last time.
I am currently reading the Flavia de Luce series, which is about a spunky 11-year old in 1950 with a penchant for chemistry and solving murders. In between Flavia, novelty brooches, and a snazzy new handmade dress, I just couldn't resist the urge to climb up in a tree and have a bit of an adventure of a non-sewing sort. My mother thought I was a loon, but it was great fun!
What's Next
- Next week, I'll show you the third version of the dress with a collar. It's what I've been sewing for Fall for Cotton!
- See last week's version of the Emery Dress, a teal linen number with a sweet bow at the waist.
- Don't forget to enter the giveaway for a chance to win the pattern!

love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Erika! Yay for more Amy Sedaris makes!
DeleteVery cute! This is such a great pattern for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly! Dare I say it, but I think it might be my favorite pattern. It's just so comfortable and yet classy!
DeleteI have to say I love this version so much better than the first. The tulips are fantastic and the matching brooch just finishes the outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle! It's a fun combo.
DeleteI reeeeally like it made this way, kind of a separates look. And I love up-in-the-tree pics! Shows it's a "mobile" piece. :)

DeleteOoh! I think I like this one even more than last weeks (if that's possible?!)! I'm a big sucker for prints and this one really is lovely without being too "in-your-face". Great brooch too! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nishi! I was surprised with how subtle the print turned out being. It looks pretty bold when I was hunting for stuff online!

DeleteSo cute, and so different from the other iterations! I also love Flavia, and your tree-climbing adventure is just perfect ;)
ReplyDeleteGasp! Another Flavia reader?! A kindred spirit! I'd love to hear what else you're reading. Might give me some ideas for new reads!
DeleteThis is so cute! DixieDIY mentioned how amazingly you handled this pattern and I must say both of your projects would easily sell this pattern so much better than the pattern manufacturer's versions.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Abbey! I love the Emery. It's such a wonderful way to showcase a great print.
